About Us
The Beginning
In 2017, Hendrik and Jamie Coleman were inspired to create a life-skills center focused on children’s safety and development. Back then, they didn’t have children of their own, but they recognized the need for a facility where kids could learn water safety and essential skills. The idea started with a swim school, and as their vision grew, they incorporated various other activities.
Building the Dream
Helo Community Center began as a dream to offer more than what a small town could traditionally provide. Hendrik and Jamie saw the potential to build something special at the old Ficksburg airport, a place with a rich history. This location became the perfect spot to create a safe, nurturing environment for learning and community activities.
Community Focus
With a strong belief in the potential of every individual, Hendrik and Jamie are passionate about helping people discover and develop their unique skills and talents. The name “HELO” is a tribute to their children, Hewitt James and Isla Rae, and symbolizes the center’s commitment to family and community.
